On Thursday, 21 September – the International Day of Peace – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon honored Brazilian author Paulo Coelho and Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein of Jordan by designating them as United Nations Messengers of Peace. They joined four other Messengers of Peace, individuals who possess widely recognized talents in the fields of art, literature, music and sports, in helping to raise worldwide awareness of the ideals and activities of the United Nations.

Launch of Paulo Coelho's Latest Book takes place in Dubai and is part of Dubai's Cultural Agenda
Dubai, April 8th, 2007

Dubai staged a major international literary event when award-winning author Paulo Coelho launched his new book The Witch of Portobello, on 8th April.

The launch is the first to take place in the city, since His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, outlined The Dubai Strategic Plan (2015), which reinforced the importance of cultural development as an integral part of driving the UAE forward on its path of progress.

Paulo Coelho participates in Hewlett Packard's campaign

Paulo Coelho participates in Hewlett Packard's campaign "The Computer is Personal again" in Latin America with a TV ad, where the author shares his experience in using the computer. The ad is being broadcasted in the Brazilian TV and the Latin American region, as well as used in an on-line campaign.

The five million cups featuring Paulo Coelho's quote were first distributed to Starbucks throughout the United States   
January 2007

Starbucks is including quotes from him in its The Way I See It program, which prints the words of thinkers on millions of the chain's coffee cups.

They are being used on the "venti" cup which is alternating Paulo’s quote with one from one of their customers. The bulk of the cups were supposed to be used over the month of February or so but a  portion of the cups is likely to be in circulation for months to come.

 

The Witch of Portobello was launched simultaneously in Portuguese and Spanish after an unprecedented action on the Internet

Before its launch, Paulo Coelho posted in his blog www.paulocoelhoblog.com the first 11 chapters of the novel, to give the readers a space to debate and give their opinion about the book. The blog has received until now 300,000 visits in Spanish and 200,000 in Portuguese.
