Paulo Coelho holder of a Guinness World Record

Paulo Coelho has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the author who signed the most foreign editions of one of his books, "The Alchemist", during an international book signing hold at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 10^th.

Paulo Coelho has been invited by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee to this year's ceremony, which will take place in Oslo, Norway, on December 11^th.

The Alchemist: the film
May 2003

Warner Brothers has commissioned the film project of "The Alchemist" to Laurence Fishburne, one of the leading characters of the celebrated film "Matrix", who will write, direct and star in the film. In the next days, Paulo Coelho and Laurence Fishburne will be meeting in Europe to exchange ideas for the film, which is scheduled to be released in 2004.

The Alchemist among the BBC Top 100 books

"The Alchemist" has made it into the BBC Top 100 of the nation's best loved novels of all times in a recent poll for their Big Read promotion carried out in April. The BBC Big Read started with an open invitation for everyone to nominate a favourite book, and will finish in autumn by focusing on just 20 novels that matter to millions. Click here to see the BBC Big Read Top 100. The list has been divided into ten themes, each of which will be featured for two weeks on the BBC Big Read website. "The Alchemist" has been listed under the theme The Great Escape and will be featured on their website from 28th June to 11^th July.
