The Valkyries: Paulo Coelho's inner world
Why do we destroy what we love the most? This the question with which the
author confronts his own past to face and believe in his future.
The Valkyries is Paulo Coelho's fourth novel. In it the author introduces us
into what was his own mystical experience in the way of magic and his own
inner search. The Valkyries is one of Coelho's most traditional works in
which we find his purest topics, which are present throughout his work: the
need to follow our dreams believe in them, transmitting at the same time an
optimistic and positive message full of light.
It is a beautiful story in which the narrator -Coelho himself- embarks upon
a journey through the Mojave desert accompanied by his wife, where he comes
into action to defeat evil through an encounter with the guardian angel and
the Valkyries, motorized warrior women that symbolise an icon of original
instinctive depth, necessary to retrieve and approach the real sources of
love.
A modern-day adventure and a metaphysical journey of self-doubt, cowardice,
fear to forgive one's past and of having faith in one's future; the story of
two people struggling to (re)discover their true selves and each other,
thereby also learning the difference between infatuation and love.
